Delhi. The name spells power, grand architecture, clean streets, sumptuous food, art, education. We can go on. This 5000-year-old city also has ample history associated with it. Innumerable emperors of the past have created stunning and intricate structures here to make Delhi their own. The Purana Quila, Qutab Minar, and the Red Fort are examples of their life and grandeur. Invaders have often plundered Delhi but the city has maintained its royalty. Till today, Delhi offers a lot to its citizens. The city functions as a Union Territory. As the capital of India, Delhi is jointly administered by the Government of National Capital Territory of India and the Union Government of India. The Rashtrapati Bhawan (President’s House), Parliament of India and the Supreme Court of India are in Delhi.

Delhi has also been a hub for sports and recreational activities. The Asian Games were held in Delhi in 1982. At the time, the Asiad Village Complex was built here next to Sirifort Auditorium. As the venue for the 2010 Commonwealth Games, Delhi is going to be the appropriate place to host the 19th Commonwealth Games. With an effort to leave no stone unturned, an entirely new state-of-the-art Games Village is being developed by Delhi Development Authority with an anticipated project cost of about $ 230 million. This village is coming up along the bank of river Yamuna, close to Akshardham Temple at the Noida Mor in Delhi. Off National Highway 24, this games village has been planned to be an ideal location for athletes, officials and sportspersons who will be attending the 12-day long event.

With an easily accessible location at the heart of the city, the Commonwealth Games village is well-connected by road and rail network and is in close proximity to major attractions in the city including Humayun Tomb, Bahai Temple and Akshardham Temple. Lined with trees, the Games Village sprawls over 63.5 hectares of land. It has been earmarked to ensure accommodation to more than 8500 participants and officials attending the event. The village, no doubt, has been developed to provide a relaxing, rejuvenating and revitalising environment for athletes and other participants.

Several sports and adventure events are held in Delhi regularly. Swimming, Fishing, Parasailing, Boating, Bungee Jumping, Ice Games, Rock Climbing, Cycle Tours, Flying, Gliding, Golf, Polo, Riding, Shooting, Squash and Tennis tournaments are held here. Some famous sports complexes of Delhi are the Saket Sports Complex, Sirifort Sports Complex, Delhi Golf Course, National Stadium, and Delhi Lawn Tennis Association, Nehru Stadium, Talkatora Stadium, and NSCI.
